        KURDISH COMMUNITY CENTRE

        Post : Finance Manager

        Report to : Management Committee

        Salary : £28,000 p.a.

        Closing Date : Midday, Friday 31st August 2007

        Kurdish Community Centre will be running a 3 year project fully funded byLondonDevelopment Agency. This project aims to provide basic tools in financial management and governance for 5 Kurdish community organisations in London. 

        KCC, with this project, also aims to create opportunities for all people, especially for those who are vulnerable and disadvantagedencouraging them to participate in this project.

        Kurdish Community Centre has full disabled access and facilities.

        The post-holder will be the head of financial development team of 5 Kurdish Organisations, who will supervise the Assistant Accountant, and the Finance lead of each participant organisation as well as training them.

        MAIN DUTIES

        Financial Oversight

        • Contribute to the preparation of the charities’ strategic and business plans
        • Advise the treasurers and trustees on financial issues
        • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and other such management reports as are necessary for management and funders
        • Update and control of financial policies and procedures
        • Provide advice to managers in planning and controlling the work of the charities (including financial accounting, management accounting, forecasting, budget and control systems)
        • Keep abreast of financial developments across the charity sector by liaising with senior finance staff in other charities

        Financial accounts

        • Prepare the statutory annual accounts
        • Control of projects budget preparation and reporting
        • Liaise with funders with regard to financial matters
        • Maintain records to meet legal requirements

        Accounts and Book-keeping

        • Oversee all aspects of the participant organisations’ accounts, including book-keeping, receipts and payments, and petty cash to ensure they are accurate, effective and conform to Charity and Company Law
        • Manage the systems for all aspects of the financial accounting ledgers
        • Work in co-operation with the auditors to ensure that the annual audit is conducted efficiently and expeditiously
        • Management of debtors and creditors

        Payroll

        • Oversee the preparation the organisation’s payroll and ensure the accuracy of the monthly payroll and other salary requirements

        Cash Management

        • Liaise with the bank on all bank matters
        • Plan and manage monthly cash flow, when/if needed
        • Management of accruals and pre-payments 

        Charity Management

        • Set up and/or review the policies of the charities as planned
        • Advise and assist the Management Committees of the participant organisations in ensuring that the participant organisations comply with their governing documents, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations. 

        Training

        • Organise the planned training days as well as conducting in house training for the relevant members of staff and the relevant Management Committee members on the relevant aspects outlined above.   

        Any other duties, commensurate with the post that may be requested from time to time

        PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR FINANCE MANAGER

        • BA (Hons) in Accounting (UK)
        • Minimum 4 years previous experience in charity accounting with 2 years financial management experience
        • Minimum 2 years experience in Charity Management
        • Working knowledge of current charity accounting requirements and practise, particularly SORP 2005
        • Minimum 2 years experience of QuickBooks
        • Familiar with a range of payroll packages
        • Experience of working as an active member of a management team
        • Proven financial analysis and forecasting ability
        • Proven ability and experience of using Word, Excel and other Windows XP Professional applications
        • Commitment to humanitarian values
        • Eligible to work in the UK.

        The post-holder will assist the Finance Manager in

        Running the department by mostly dealing with the operational and technical issues;
        Supervising and training the Finance Persons from each participant organisations.
        MAIN DUTIES

        • Contribute to the preparation of the Charities’ strategic and business plans
        • Participate in preparation of monthly, quarterly and other such management reports as are necessary for management and funders
        • Participate in preparation of the statutory annual accounts
        • Participate in projects budget preparation and reporting
        • Maintain records to meet legal requirements
        • Conduct the operational and technical aspects of the participant organisations’ accounts, including book-keeping, receipts and payments, and petty cash to ensure they are accurate, effective and conform to Charity and Company Law

        Minimum 1 year previous experience in charity accounting
        Minimum 1 year experience in Charity Management

        FINANCE PROJECT VOLUNTEERS

        FREE training on accountancy and on QuickBooks!

        Kurdish Community Centre will be running a 3 year project fully funded by the LondonDevelopment Agency. This project aims to provide basic tools in financial management and governance for 5 Kurdish community organisations in London.

        One volunteer will work and will be trained on accountancy and QuickBooks at each community organisation every year.

        Volunteers may be rotated between organisations with their agreement in order to broaden their experience.

        KCC, with this project, also aims to create opportunities for all people, especially for those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged; encouraging them to participate in this project.

        Kurdish Community Centre’s commitment:

        The duties of Finance Project Volunteers who assist the Finance Team in all aspects of accounts of the organisation they work at include the followings:

        Bookkeeping, (posting the transactions by utilising Accounting software)
        Dealing with receipts and payments
        Dealing with general office work (photocopying, posting etc)
        Helping in preparation of financial reports;
        Helping in Audit preparation
